Slate Truck: A Bezos-backed startup is making one of the boldest bets in the industry: a bare-bones, two-seat electric pickup starting at just $24,950, currently America's cheapest new EV. It skips the touchscreens and paint in favor of crank windows, physical controls, and body panels that come in molded color rather than a paint job, and it can be converted into a small SUV with a bolt-on kit. Slate has collected more than 180,000 reservations, with deliveries beginning in Q4 2026 out of its Warsaw, Indiana factory and most units shipping through 2027.

BMW iX3: BMW's first vehicle built on its all-new Neue Klasse platform lands in US showrooms on September 25, priced from $61,500. It delivers an EPA-estimated 434 miles of range, an 800-volt architecture capable of 400 kW DC fast charging, and BMW's new Panoramic iDrive display. The iX3 already won World Car of the Year in 2026, and more than 50,000 European orders had come in within its first six months on sale there.

Rivian R2: Rivian's mass-market electric SUV is rolling out in stages, and 2027 is when the full lineup finally fills in. The dual-motor Performance trim launched first with 656 horsepower and 330 miles of range, and the mid-tier Premium followed in early 2027. The entry-level Standard trim, the one that finally hits Rivian's long-promised $45,000 starting price, is not expected until late 2027, making it one of the most-watched affordable EV rollouts still in progress.

Kia EV3: After selling well in Europe and Korea, Kia's compact electric crossover is confirmed to finally reach the US for 2027, with roughly 320 miles of range and a sportier 288-horsepower GT version among the offerings. It slots in as a smaller, more affordable sibling to the EV6 and EV9, aimed at buyers who want an EV without a three-row price tag.

Jeep Wagoneer S: Jeep's first fully electric SUV took an unusual detour on its way to 2027. After slow sales once the federal EV tax credit expired, Jeep paused the Wagoneer S entirely for the 2026 model year to rework it. It returns for 2027 with a switch to the North American Charging Standard port, opening up access to Tesla's Supercharger network, along with battery and software improvements on top of its 600-horsepower performance.

Ford Fathom: Ford is reportedly bringing an electric counterpart to the Maverick pickup to market in 2027, starting around $30,000. Little has been officially confirmed yet, but it is being positioned to bring EV pricing down into compact truck territory, a segment that has had almost no electric options at this price point.
